November 25, 2024 – Dr. Hiro Kurashina and Dr. Rebecca A. Stephenson have generously donated $10,000 to the Stephenson-Kurashina Endowed Scholarship Fund, further enhancing its mission to provide financial support to students pursuing higher education.
Dr. Stephenson, an esteemed academic, earned both an MA and PhD in anthropology from the University of Oregon in 1971 and 1976, respectively. She also holds a BA in anthropology from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Stephenson retired in 2007 with the rank of Professor of Anthropology from the University of Guam, where she had been a dedicated faculty member since 1977.
Dr. Kurashina, a respected scholar and leader, served as the Emeritus Director of the University of Guam’s Richard F. Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC). He was appointed to this role in 2004 by the University of Guam Board of Regents and the university president, and his work has contributed significantly to research and education in the region.
This most recent $10,000 donation will continue to bolster the scholarship, making higher education more accessible for future generations of scholars.
