On March 8, 2023, two scholarships were awarded to UOG Students during UOG’s Charter Day Event.
The Tanom Bernard Watson Scholarship honors Mr. Watson who was a farmer, innovator, educator, collaborator, and friend who was recognized as one of the best Agroecologist managing his farm for more than 30 years in Guam. He openly shared his knowledge with everyone and helped the University of Guam in so many ways. The Agriculture and Life Sciences Division wishes to honor his memory by offering this scholarship to graduate and undergraduate students who study agriculture and food science at the University of Guam.
The James Whippy Soccer Scholarship was created in memory of James O. Whippy. He was Head Coach for the University of Guam Soccer Team from 1990-1993. In this time UOG won four consecutive Guam Football Association Championships. In 2018, he was inducted into the UOG Athletic Hall of Fame. This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students who are a part of the UOG Soccer Team.
Thank you to everyone who supported UOG through our G is for Giving campaign. The efforts put into this campaign, collectively, reflects the island’s investment in the UOG students. We want to thank the student volunteers and vendors who participated in the Giving Tuesday Outreach Fair, the faculty and staff who supported the various fundraisers, and all the donors whose philanthropic endeavors where realized during this annual campaign. You’ve all made the future brighter with your contributions.
The UOG Endowment Foundation (UOGEF) is pleased to announce that it has been designated as one of the drop-off locations for this year’s U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. This is a wonderful campaign that aims to bring joy to children (ages 0-17) during the holiday season. In the previous year, over 6,000 toys were collected and allocated to children on Guam.
Through this generous drive, unwrapped toys will be collected by the Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and distributed to children in need. This will be the 13th annual Toys for Tots campaign on Guam. Toys must be new and unwrapped when they are dropped off.
Donations for the Toys for Tots program will be accepted at the UOGEF location until December 10, 2022. The UOGEF office is conveniently located at 303 University Drive, House #10 Dean Circle, Mangilao, GU.
For any companies or individuals interested in donating to support the University of Guam, please contact the University of Guam Endowment Foundation at (671) 735-2957 or email@example.com, or visit give.uog.edu for more information.
Thank you and Si Yu’us Maase to all our supporters who contributed during our annual G is for Giving campaign. We are happy to report that we surpass our fundraising goal, raising over $32,000 for student scholarships, research, and programs!
Community support and generosity is critical to our success as an organization. We depend on donors like to fund the scholarships and programs that make UOG students successful. If you contributed in 2018, we extend our warmest gratitude. Stay in touch during 2019 to see what else we get up to, and we hope you will continue to be a part of our G is for Giving family.
It’s that time of year again- G is for Giving, our annual end-of-year fundraising campaign kicks off officially on Tuesday, November 27 (#GivingTuesday). G is for Giving is a time for the UOG community, including students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and community members, to come together and support UOG students by donating with the Triton spirit.
Last year the G is for Giving campaign raised over $21,000 for student scholarships. This year, we are hoping to raise even more, with a goal of $25,000 to support student scholarships, research, and programs.
What makes G is for Giving special is two main things. First, it’s way for people who love UOG to make a gift that has a big impact- even gifts of $5 or $10 dollars, when added together with hundreds of other donors, can pay for a student’s education! And second, it is a chance for a donor to support a scholarship or program that matters to them. Donors who donated to CLASS last year, for example, saw 5 students in that school receive academic scholarships as a result of their gift!
By giving donors the chance to choose where their donation will go, we allow people to support the schools (like the School of Education) and programs (like the Center for Island Sustainability) that matter the most to them. And these scholarships can be flexible, to suit the needs of students- perhaps a student has a loan for tuition but needs extra money to fund a research project, or afford their textbooks… G is for Giving makes this rich academic experience possible.
Think about what your college experience meant to you, and imagine how it would feel to give the gift of that experience to a student today. Consider making a tax-deductible contribution- you can donate online here. Biba UOG!
The UOG Student Government Association is organizing a Super Typhoon Yutu Relief Drive to support students impacted by the devastating storm in Saipan and Tinian. The UOG Endowment Foundation is collecting donations on their behalf for a short time. You may also donate items in need. Click here for a list of item requests, or to donate funds. Si Yu’os Ma’åse’!
