Congratulations to Nikki Marie K. Aguon on being the first to receive the President Emeritus Wilfred, Virginia, Gina Leon Guerrero & Family Scholarship!
This scholarship was established in honor of President Emeritus Dr. Wilfred P. Leon Guerrero, the University of Guam’s sixth president, and his wife, Virginia Artero Leon Guerrero, a retired elementary educator and librarian. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Leon Guerrero served as a leader in higher education and public service, including his appointment by President Bill Clinton to the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. He was instrumental in advancing the University of Guam, serving as the founding Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences during UOG’s designation as a Land Grant Institution and helping secure funding for several major academic facilities on campus. In 2021, he was recognized with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to education and leadership. Together, Dr. and Mrs. Leon Guerrero raised six children and instilled in them the importance of higher education and professional achievement. This scholarship supports University of Guam students pursuing studies in library science, computer science, or mathematics.
