Scholarships We Offer

  • This scholarship honors the special memory of educator PRISCILLA CRUZ TOVES PEREZ.

    She was a teacher of over 30 years having worked for the Guam Public School System and the Academy of Our Lady of Guam.  The call to become a teacher came from her special personal outlook of dire needs of young people to be a part of the People in the World themselves.  To assist them to be aware and focused, and to knowingly be prepared to make whatever future action to survive, for themselves and their families.

    Her family established this scholarship to honor her and her deep commitment to teaching while celebrating cultural diversity and instilling hopes of future legacies in the students, with the World.

    • Award: 1 award of $500 for one year
    • Eligibility:
      o   Open to all students in any major.
      o   First preference given to relatives of the donor family and/or Priscilla C. T. Perez
      o   Preference given based on financial need basis and to relatives of donor family.
      o   Minimum GPA: 2.75
      o   250-word essay required: “Who was your most impactful teacher and how did your student experience under them shape your future academic, interpersonal, and career goals?”

This endowed scholarship honors the memory of Mr. Akira Baba, and is sponsored by Akira Baba Family and the Baba Corporation.  Mr. Baba’s businesses deal with the tourism, hospitality, and service industry.  Award preference will be made to eligible applicants in the tourism, hospitality, and marine biology programs. However, any UOG student can apply for the scholarship.

  • Award:  1 award of $750 for one year
  • Eligibility: Open to all UOG students.
  • Essay:  Response to the following questions:
    • What is your chosen field of study? Why?
    • What activities are you involved in at your school and community (i.e. clubs, organizations, etc. ) Describe your involvement in each.
    • Briefly describe any honors that you have received that you would like the scholarship committee to consider when reviewing this application.
    • Briefly explain your career objectives and how you can contribute back to the island of Guam.
    • Briefly describe any special financial circumstances that you would like the scholarship committee to consider when reviewing this application.

This endowed scholarship was created in honor of the Kenneth & Helen Carriveau family.  Son, Kenneth Carriveau, Jr. is married to Llolanda Carriveau and has two children, Katherine and Kieran.  Daughter, Monique Carriveau Storie is married to Brett Storie and has as son, Ethan. Family patriarch, Kenneth Carriveau, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Library Science, held various faculty and administrative positions during his 26-year tenure at the University of Guam. He eventually served simultaneously as Dean of Library Services and Director of MARC. The intention of this scholarship is to encourage undergraduate & graduate students to write theses or other creative works about Guam and the Mariana Islands.

  • Award: 1 award of $2,000 per year (Distributed as $1,000 per semester)
  • Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate student engaged in thesis writing (or equivalent) on any topic about Guam and the Mariana Islands.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
  • Other requirement: The awardee will authorize MARC to publish said products in either print or digital format or both.
  • Selection: RFT Micronesian Area Research Center to oversee selection of awardees

This scholarship was created in honor of Cerila M. Rapadas by the Board of Directors of Catholic Social Services (CSS), her many colleagues, friends and family. She worked tirelessly along with social workers and other social service caregivers at CSS for over 20 years.  She provided leadership, guidance, and mentorship to dozens of her co-workers over the years as they provided respectful and dignified care to hundreds of clients who needed basic, humanitarian attention and love. This scholarship is granted with the hope that as the recipients go forward and complete their studies, they may choose to serve Guam’s most needy and vulnerable populations.

  • Award: 1 award of $500 per year
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be enrolled full time at the University of Guam as an undergraduate student in the Social Work program or closely related field.
    • Applicant must continue to be in good standing at the University of Guam during the scholarship period.
    • Applicant must be a resident of Guam and intend to work and stay on Guam after completing their degree.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and must maintain that average throughout the scholarship period.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship honors the memory of Christine P. Lewis, whose life and exploits inspired so many cancer patients on Guam.  The Christine P. Lewis Memorial Fund wishes to assist students based on academics, financial, and social criteria.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year
  • Eligibility: Must be a full-time undergraduate student
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Essay required: 500 words, outlining the reasons for applying for the scholarship and future aspirations.
  • Additional requirement:  Scholarship recipient must place a flower on the burial site of Christine P. Lewis in appreciation.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created from collective donations received through the Foundation’s annual “G is for Giving” campaign and other donations to benefit the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences.

  • Award: 3 awards of $500 for one year
  • Eligibility:
    • Applicant must be a UOG student in good standing.
    • Must have a declared major from CLASS.
    • Must be a full-time student (12+ credit hours)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Essay required:
    • Describe financial need.

This scholarship was created from collective donations received through the Foundation’s annual “G is for Giving” campaign and other donations to benefit the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences.

  • Award: 1 award of $500 for one year
  • Eligibility:
    • Applicant must be a UOG student in good standing.
    • Must have a declared major in CHamoru Studies.
    • Must be a full-time student (12+ credit hours)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

This scholarship was created to honor members of the Stotts Family, in particular the following: Frank Stotts taught physical education classes at the University of Guam in the 1970’s and coached the UOG Men’s Basketball Team from 1970-1976.  He was inducted to UOG’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. Terry Stotts at age 16 played on UOG’s basketball team and UOG won the Guam Island Basketball Championship. Jayne (Stotts) Phelps earned a Masters of Elementary Education from the University of Guam (1973).

  • Awards:
    • 1 award of $1,000 to an UOG athlete OR a student pursuing a degree in Education
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a student athlete or Education major
    • Official transcript from last school/college attended
    • Based on financial need
    • Preference to be given to students who are members of any UOG athletic team.
    • Any student athlete (regardless of sport) does not need to pursue Education curricula.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship is in honor of Attorney Fred Horecky, an active member in the island business community. He is the proprietor and managing attorney of The Law Offices of Horecky & Associates. He has been practicing law for over three decades and received the 2013 U.S. Small Business Administration’s Minority Small Business Award for Guam.  He continues to give back to our island community by providing scholarships to students.

  • Award:  1 award of $500 for one year
  • Eligibility: Must be a graduate student enrolled at SBPA
  • Minority students encouraged to apply
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50, and must maintain 2.8 GPA for scholarship period
  • Selection will be based on financial need.

This endowed scholarship was created to empower the future leaders of Guam who are queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender to achieve their academic goals, despite lack of financial support from family, so they can make an impact for Guam and society.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year (Distributed $500/semester)
  • Eligibility:
    • Must identify as LGBTQ student facing family or socio-economic hardship.
    • Selection will be based on financial need.
    • Open to Undergraduate/ Graduate students
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Payable to: UOG

This endowed IT&E scholarship was created in honor of Margarita Duenas Perez, mother of IT&E Overseas Chairman, Jose D. Perez, and Jaime Felipe Tuquero, a dedicated colleague at IT&E Overseas.

  • Award: 6 awards of $2,000 for one year to be distributed as $1,000 per semester
  • Eligibility:
    • Preference to be given to full time employees or children of IT&E Overseas or one of its subsidiaries.
    • Must be enrolled full-time at the University of Guam
    • Open to Undergraduate/ Graduate students
    • Submit three (3) Letters of recommendation
  • Minimum GPA of 3.20
  • Essay requirement:  Essay should be based on the applicant’s long-term objectives
  • Payable to: Awardee

This endowed scholarship is named for benefactors James and Young Hee Ji.  James Ji served as a taekwondo instructor at UOG in the 1970s.  He is a successful businessman and proprietor of James Ji Enterprises construction company. He remains active in his passion for taekwondo through the Guam Taekwondo Federation/James Ji Taekwondo Academy.  Through the James Ji Foundation, they continue their philanthropy towards various causes.  They have provided scholarships to a number of UOG students since 2002.

  • Award:  1 award of $5,000 for one year to be distributed as $2,500 per semester
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) certified student.
    • Must be resident of Guam for at least four (4) years
    • Must have earned high school diploma from Guam
  • Minimum GPA: 3.50 (Must maintain 3.0 through scholarship period)
  • Other requirements:  Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Essay requirement:  500-word essay on the importance of attending an American university
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created in honor of the late James Whippy, the former UOG Men’s soccer coach who won four Guam Football Association Championships in the early 1990s and was recently placed into the UOG Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. This scholarship will support UOG’s soccer teams, both male and female.

  • 1 – $800 scholarships for the year for a male soccer team player
  • 1 – $800 scholarships for the year for a female soccer team player
  • Eligibility:
    • Applicant must be a UOG student
    • Must be a member of the UOG Soccer team for at least 1 semester
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Payable to: Awardee

This endowed scholarship is named for Professor Emeritus of Art, Robert M. Sajnovsky, M.F.A. and his son, James Sajnovsky.  After decades of service to UOG as a member of the CLASS faculty, Robert Sajnovsky continues to be an active member of the Society of Emeritus Professors and Retired Scholars by engaging in CLASS’ Annual Research Conferences through creating and displaying art work.  He has also served the community for over 43 years through volunteer work as a Coast Guard Auxiliarist and has received numerous awards in recognition of his sustained service.

  • Award:  1 award of $1,000 for one year to be distributed as $500 each semester.
  • Eligibility: Open to students with junior or senior status who are majoring in one of UOG’s Fine Arts programs (music, theater, or visual arts).
  • Minimum GPA: 3.00
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created by the John F. Kennedy High School Class of 1969. Many of whom attended and graduated from the University of Guam. These alumni went on to work in many facets of the private and government sectors, including education, law, banking, business, health and social services and the military. Their intention is to provide annual scholarships for graduating JFK High School students who need financial assistance in their pursuit of higher education. This is their way of giving back to their beloved school.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year.
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Guam.
    • Applicants must submit proof by providing a copy of their diploma or high school transcripts.
    • Must be a full-time undergraduate student.
    • Must have an undeclared course of study.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.00 or higher
  • If candidates are equally qualified, selection will be based on financial need.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created by JTB Global Foundation Micronesia, a non-profit organization that promotes education and training in travel/tourism in Guam and Micronesia Tours, Inc. (now PMT Guam Corporation) a JTB Group company.

  • Award: 2 awards of $1,000 for one year. To be distributed as $500 per semester
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a resident of Guam with U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, or a citizen, from the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Belau.
    • Must have a declared an undergraduate degree in Tourism and must be a full-time student at the University of Guam.
    • In addition to the required Tourism courses, must be in a Japanese Language course
    • Submit two (2) letters of recommendation.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.
  • Essay requirement:  Applicant must have stated a desire to pursue education that benefits the tourism industry of Guam, Saipan, and Micronesia.

This endowed scholarship was created in the memory of Dr. Karri Trahin Perez, beloved faculty member of the UOG School of Business & Public Administration.  She is remembered for her energy and her love of life in the hearts of family and friends, colleagues, clients, and numerous students.  She dedicated her life to better the quality of the workforce on our island in private, government, and military sectors.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be enrolled full time at the University of Guam
    • Open to Undergraduate/Graduate students
    • Must be a resident of Guam
    • Applicant must show a demonstrated entrepreneurial interests or inclination. This may be demonstrated in a number of ways, including: Sufficient coursework at SBPA focusing on entrepreneurships; attending a start-up bootcamp through SBPA; attending entrepreneur counseling sessions at SBDC; and /or submitting a business plan.
  • Essay required: Application must include a short essay describing enterprise or business opportunity envisaged. This may be inclined as part of the business plan, or standalone addendum if applicant is applying with a full business plan.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
  • Preference will be given to SBPA students, but any student demonstrating sufficient entrepreneurial interest or background will be eligible to apply.

This scholarship was created by The Kurt S. Moylan Foundation, a Guam not for profit corporation in tribute to Kurt S. Moylan, Guam’s first elected Lt. Governor of Guam. As a public official he helped shape Guam’s identity and improved the island for the better.  As an innovative businessman, he was known for his tireless work ethic and vision.  Through his many companies, he employed hundreds who have served thousands of our island residents.  As a family man, he instilled in his children the same drive and character that his parents raised him with, so they can continue his legacy both in business and more importantly in their love for the community.

This scholarship will be awarded to students who can best display their thoughts and process in writing on how to make Guam a better place. The KSM Foundation Scholarships is and will continue to be for Guam’s future leaders.

  • Award: 2 awards of $2,500 for one year to be distributed as $1,250 per semester
  • Eligibility:
    • Available to full-time undergraduate students
    • Applicants must have declared Business Administration majors
  • Essay required:
    • “How to Make Guam a Better Place”
    • Minimum 500 words, double-spaced, Times New Roman font
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00, and must maintain 3.0 GPA for scholarship period

Ms. Lauren McCluskey is remembered for her positive attitude, cheerful mind, and unrelenting spirit. She was a college student in the University of Utah, where her life was tragically taken because of domestic violence on her campus (see Lauren’s obituary at https://www.laurenmccluskey.org/lauren). It is hoped that this scholarship named in her memory will increase the awareness of campus safety and domestic violence among members of the University of Guam. Students who advocate for safer campus community and ending domestic violence are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Awards:
    • 1 award of $500 per year
  • Eligibility:
    • Priority given to female student athletes
    • Preference given to first-generation college students.
    • Official transcript from last school/college attended
    • Based on financial need
    • Preference to be given to students who are members of any UOG athletic team.
    • Any student athlete (regardless of sport) does not need to pursue Education curricula.
  • Essay Requirement:
    • “How to promote awareness of domestic violence”
  • Award obligation:
    • Recipient must agree to help promote awareness of domestic violence in speeches or advertising with the scholarship selection committee during the year award is received.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.0
  • Payable to: Awardee

The Mañaina Scholarship was established in December 2019 through the efforts of SVPP Anita Borja-Enriquez as part of the UOG College Affordability Initiative. It is intended for students who are at risk of an uncompleted semester or year due to financial hardship.

When we think about our elders (Mañaina), we recall their nurturing sense of care for one’s family and the community. This serves as the inspiration for this scholarship fund.

  • This need is determined by the UOG Financial Office, based on students’ completed FAFSA application forms.
  • 1 Award of $500 for One (1) Year.
  • Determination of awards will be made through the Enrollment Management and Student Success Division, based on review and recommendation by the UOG Financial Aid Director, EMSS Dean, the Senior Vice President and two other UOG representatives.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time junior or senior level undergraduate student
  • Must be a full-time working student
    • Must show proof of employment [Employment Verification]
  • Financial needs based on student’s completed FAFSA application forms.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 maintained

This scholarship was created by Matson.  As conversations about race and social equity feature prominently in the National discourse, Matson is committed to doing what it can to be part of the solution in its operations and in its community giving.  As part of this effort, Matson has committed to providing $5,000 to establish two scholarships at the University of Guam to promote greater diversity in the next generation of business leaders.

  • Award: 2 awards of $2,500 ($1,250 per semester)
  • Eligibility:
    • Applicant must be enrolled either full-time or part-time
    • Applicant must identify as Micronesian from the Micronesia Region (Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Belau, or the Republic of the Marshall Islands).
    • Preference is given to women.
    • Applicant is open to sophomores and above with declared majors in the School of Business & Public Administration.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created in honor of Jimmy Hall, to pass on the spirit of curiosity and excitement for sharks and their world.  Jimmy inspired countless people with his energy, enthusiasm, and infectious personality.  His unwavering hunger for life and sense of adventure left most who met him striving to be “More Like Jimmy.”  Jimmy died in 2007, during one of hi many great adventures, a BASE jumping expedition to Baffin Island in the Arctic.

    • Applicant must declare intent to pursue an degree in Marine or Environmental Science at UOG. (Must love Elasmobranchs)
    • Available to full-time undergraduate students
    • Short essay describing accomplishments in prior school year with an emphasis on volunteer and environmental work.
    • 2 letters of recommendation (1 must be from an educator, 1 from a person who witnessed your volunteer work in prior year)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher

This scholarship was created by the Palau Women’s Club as part of their commitment to support the local community and provide an opportunity for island residents to pursue a higher education by providing tuition assistance.

  • Award: 2 awards of $1,000 for one year to be distributed as $1,000 per year
  • Eligibility:
    • Available to both full-time and part-time students
    • Available to both graduate and undergraduate students
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50, and must maintain 2.50 GPA for scholarship period

As a first-generation college student, herself, Patricia Krise understands the challenges that students are faced with while striving to achieve higher education. This scholarship is meant provide encouragement with financial assistance.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year applied to student’s account at UOG.
  • Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate student whose parents did not complete college and the student is the first among siblings to attend college.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50
  • Essay required:
    • Describe what it means for you to be a first-generation college student and its significance to your life.
  • Selection will be based on financial need and made by the UOG Financial Aid Office.
  • Payable directly to the University of Guam

This endowed scholarship was created by UOG’s 11th President, Thomas W. Krise, PhD and Patricia Krise. As a first-generation college student, herself, Patricia Krise understands the challenges that students are faced with while striving to achieve higher education. This scholarship is meant provide encouragement with financial assistance.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year applied to student’s account at UOG.
  • Eligibility: Must be a Junior or Senior at risk of not completing degree for financial reasons.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
  • Essay required: What impact will receiving this Gap Scholarship have on your future?
  • Selection will be based on financial need and made by the UOG Financial Aid Office.
  • Payable directly to the University of Guam

This endowed scholarship was created by UOG’s 11th President, Thomas W. Krise, PhD and Patricia Krise. This scholarship is meant instill student appreciation for service and/or charitable giving with financial assistance.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year paid to the student directly.  50% to be awarded up front with balance to be awarded after the internship is completed.
  • Eligibility: Student must be enrolled in an unpaid internship program with a non-profit organization for a minimum of 4 weeks.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
  • Essay – Must provide a minimum one-page summary of the internship experience within 30-days of completing the internship to receive the full award.
  • Payable to: Awardee

This scholarship was created in September 2023 in honor of the Quichocho, Pangelinan, Taison, Talavera, and Tenorio families by Ms. Annie Q. Pangelinan. She made this scholarship to encourage others to see that “We are all in this together as islanders and we need to work together to keep our
community strong. We are all interconnected in mind, heart, body, and soul.”

  • Award: 2 awards of $500 for one year
    Eligibility:
    o Available to undergraduate students with any declared majors
    o Financial needs basis (determined by the UOG Financial Aid Office, based on the applicant’s completed FAFSA application forms.)
    o Submit an essay containing personal and career goals; and how the scholarship will help them achieve.
    o Provide List of academic or community awards, and activities
    o List any other scholarships and/or financial aid previously received
    o Provide 2 letters of recommendation
    o Submit official transcripts
    o Minimum GPA: 2.0
  • Payable to: University of Guam

The benefactor of this scholarship is SSFM International, a professional consulting firm that was founded in Hawaii in 1959 and now have branch offices in Saipan and Guam. They have shown dedication in providing student scholarships in Hawaii for 20 years. And, as a community partner in the Marianas, they want to provide scholarships for civil engineering students.

  • Award: 1 award of $7,825.00 for one year to be applied to the student’s account with UOG
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a declared BS in Civil Engineering major
    • Must be a full-time student.
    • Must have completed at least 45 credit hours by the Fall semester scholarship is being applied.
    • Must be pursuing a degree in engineering at the UOG School of Engineering
    • Must show participation in other campus activities including SAME and other UOG organization.
    • Must be a resident of Guam
  • Essay requirement:  Must demonstrate financial need in an essay.
  • Payable directly to the University of Guam

This scholarship honors the memory of Sylvia Blas Mendiola. She was born on Guam during World War II. She was an Air Force wife, mother of three, and retired employee of Guam Community College. She was not only a loving mother who sacrificed to give her children opportunities to pursue their dreams, she was a hard worker, contributor to the Santa Teresita Church and numerous civic organizations including the Young Men’s League of Guam Ladies Auxiliary and others. Her children and grandchild established this scholarship in her honor so that busy working moms may have the opportunity to pursue their dreams while taking care of their families.

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 ($500 per semester)
  • Eligibility:
    • Applicant must be a mother (single or married)
    • Preference is given for being first in the family to go to college.
    • Applicant must be a contributor to the University community, in addition to being a mother.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher.

    • How do you contribute to the University community?
    • How do you balance home, work, and school life?
