Scholarships

The following is a list of scholarships that are available through the UOG Endowment Foundation.

Students are encouraged to read the scholarship requirements carefully before applying to ensure their application is accurate and complete.

Students must fill out the application form linked below or email our offices for a copy at info@uogendowment.org, and submit it along with an Official Copy of their transcripts from the last institution they were enrolled in and any supplemental materials required by the scholarship guidelines, to the UOG Endowment Foundation offices by the application deadline. Submissions are accepted online via the link below, and any supplemental materials may be submitted via email at info@uogendowment.org. Students may also drop off hard copy applications at the UOG Endowment Foundation office by scheduling an appointment. Supplemental materials may include letters of recommendations, essay, or any other component listed in the description. Students are welcome to contact the UOG Endowment Foundation if they have any questions about scholarship eligibility requirements or application requirements.

  • Submissions will also be accepted via email by attaching the scholarship application form (available for download at the link below) to an email and submitting to info@uogendowment.org.
  • For transcripts, you can submit a request online by going here: https://www.uog.edu/admissions/request-a-transcript.   Admissions and Records will email a copy of the official transcripts directly to the UOG Endowment Foundation.
  • Students who are applying to more than one scholarship need only submit one (1) official transcript, but must have a separate application form/other additional materials for EACH scholarship they are applying for.
  • Students are encouraged to CC info@uogendowment.org in transcript request emails to admissions, to alert us that transcripts have been requested before the deadline date.
  • If submitting supplemental materials via email, please indicate in body of email the student name and which scholarship(s) the materials are being submitted for.
  • Some letters of recommendation writers may want to submit their letters directly to the UOG Endowment rather than through the student. They may do so by emailing their letter to info@uogendowment.org. Please have them indicate in the email header the name of the student and the name of the scholarship.
  • To submit application materials in hard copy form, please mail to 303 University Drive UOG Station, Mangilao, Guam 96913.
  • Please note that due to a high volume of applications, we cannot send confirmation emails to every applicant upon receipt of transcript or application.

11 Scholarships for Fañomnåkan (Spring) 2025 are now open for application submissions! Applications will be accepted until
November 30, 2024 at 4pm.

This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Charles Parent, who recognized the importance for patients receiving medical care to have nurses and practitioners that can relay medical information in their language and with the same cultural reverence to allow the patient to be at ease.  As a Guam physician, he witnessed the positive curative value that nurses from Micronesia can have with other Micronesian patients that don’t speak English and had never previously travelled from their home islands in Micronesia before. 

  • Award: 1 award of $3,000 for one year  
  • Eligibility:  
    • Open to students from the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands who have been accepted into the core nursing program or the Second Step nursing program.
    • Must show evidence of financial need. 
  • No Minimum GPA required. 
  • Payable to:  Awardee 

This scholarship was created in honor of Dr. Robert A. Underwood.  He is a politician, educator, member of the Democratic Party of Guam, former Delegate from Guam to the U.S. House of Representatives (1993-2003) and was the 10th President of the University of Guam (2008-2018). During his ten years as President, he conceived of his “Good to Great” Campaign and was instrumental in raising up to $11 million in funds during UOG’s 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign. 

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year  
  • Eligibility: 
    • Open to all full-time undergraduate students  
    • Must show evidence of financial need. 
    • Most recent transcript required 
  • Essay required: 
    • 600 words – Essay on “The Importance of Guam and Micronesia to the World”. 
  • 4.0 GPA required and if selected, student must maintain a 3.0 GPA 
  • Payable to:  University of Guam 

This endowed IT&E scholarship was created in honor of Margarita Duenas Perez, mother of IT&E Overseas Chairman, Jose D. Perez, and Jaime Felipe Tuquero, a dedicated colleague at IT&E Overseas. 

  • Award: 2 awards of $2,000 for one year to be distributed as $1,000 per semester
  • Eligibility:  
    • Preference to be given to full time employees or children of IT&E Overseas or one of its subsidiaries.  
    • Must be enrolled full-time at the University of Guam 
    • Open to Undergraduate/ Graduate students
    • Submit three (3) Letters of recommendation  
  • Minimum GPA of 3.20 
  • Essay requirement:  Essay should be based on the applicant’s long-term objectives 
  • Payable to:  Awardee 

This endowed scholarship is named for benefactors James and Young Hee Ji.  James Ji served as a taekwondo instructor at UOG in the 1970s.  He is a successful businessman and proprietor of James Ji Enterprises construction company. He remains active in his passion for taekwondo through the Guam Taekwondo Federation/James Ji Taekwondo Academy.  Through the James Ji Foundation, they continue their philanthropy towards various causes.  They have provided scholarships to a number of UOG students since 2002. 

  • Award: 1 award of $5,000 for one year to be distributed as $2,500 per semester 
  • Eligibility: 
    • Must be a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) certified student. 
    • Must be resident of Guam for at least four (4) years 
    • Must have earned high school diploma from Guam 
  • Minimum GPA: 3.50 (Must maintain 3.0 through scholarship period) 
  • Other requirements:  Three (3) letters of recommendation 
  • Essay requirement:  500-word essay on the importance of attending an American university 
  • Payable to:  Awardee

  • GPA:  Overall 2.5 
  • Payable to:  Awardee 

This scholarship was created by JTB Global Foundation Micronesia, a non-profit organization that promotes education and training in travel/tourism in Guam and Micronesia Tours, Inc. (now PMT Guam Corporation) a JTB Group company. 

  • Award: 2 awards of $1,000 for one year. To be distributed as $500 per semester 
  • Eligibility: 
    • Must be a resident of Guam with U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, or a citizen, from the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Belau. 
    • Must have a declared an undergraduate degree in Tourism and must be a full-time student at the University of Guam.  
    • In addition to the required Tourism courses, must be in a Japanese Language course
    • Submit two (2) letters of recommendation.  
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. 
  • Essay requirement:  Applicant must have stated a desire to pursue education that benefits the tourism industry of Guam, Saipan, and Micronesia.  
  • Payable to:  Awardee 

This endowed scholarship was created in the memory of Dr. Karri Trahin Perez, beloved faculty member of the UOG School of Business & Public Administration.  She is remembered for her energy and her love of life in the hearts of family and friends, colleagues, clients, and numerous students.  She dedicated her life to better the quality of the workforce on our island in private, government, and military sectors. 

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year 
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be enrolled full time at the University of Guam   
    • Open to Undergraduate/Graduate students
    • Must be a resident of Guam
    • Applicant must show a demonstrated entrepreneurial interests or inclination. This may be demonstrated in a number of ways, including: Sufficient coursework at SBPA focusing on entrepreneurships; attending a start-up bootcamp through SBPA; attending entrepreneur counseling sessions at SBDC; and /or submitting a business plan. 
  • Essay required:  Application must include a short essay describing enterprise or business opportunity envisaged. This may be inclined as part of the business plan, or standalone addendum if applicant is applying with a full business plan. 
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50 
  • Preference will be given to SBPA students, but any student demonstrating sufficient entrepreneurial interest or background will be eligible to apply.  
  • Payable to:  Awardee 

In CHamoru, Mañaina is the plural form of Saina which may refer to one’s parents, to all elders or to 

CHamoru ancestors depending on the context. Mañaina value their independence and they are sources of support, guidance, protection and wisdom for their families. Parents’ reputations hinge on raising families that abide by CHamoru mores of respect, reciprocal responsibilities and obligations including the duty of caring for their parents. (Guampedia.com) 

 These restricted funds were raised partially (but not exclusively) through the G is for Giving Campaign which targets alumni and other members of the UOG Community.  The Mañaina Scholarship was established in December 2019 through the efforts of SVPP Anita Enriquez and is intended for working students who are at risk of stopping out of an academic semester or year due to financial hardship. This will be an integral part of the UOG College Affordability Initiative intended to close the degree completion gaps for financially struggling students who work.   

 This need is determined by the UOG Financial Office, based on students’ completed FAFSA application forms. The determination of awards will be made through the Enrollment Management and Student Success Division, based on review and recommendation by the UOG Financial Aid Director, EMSS Dean, the Senior Vice President and two other UOG representatives.  

  •  Award: 5 awards of $900 for one year 
  • Eligibility: 
    • Available to full-time working students 
    • Students should show proof of employment (Employment Verification) 
    • Available to junior and senior level undergraduate students 
    • Financial needs basis (determined by the UOG Financial Aid Office, based on the applicant’s completed FAFSA application forms.) 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50, and must maintain 2.50 GPA for scholarship period 
  • Payable to:  University of Guam 

This scholarship was created by Matson.  As conversations about race and social equity feature prominently in the National discourse, Matson is committed to doing what it can to be part of the solution in its operations and in its community giving.  As part of this effort, Matson has committed to providing scholarships at the University of Guam to promote greater diversity in the next generation of business leaders. They wish to help increase diversity in leadership roles within the Ocean Shipping and Logistics industries and want to attract top talent to Mason by promoting their company as a great place to work for all. 

  • Award: 1 award of $2,500 ($1,250 per semester) 
  • Eligibility: 
    • Applicant must be enrolled either full-time or part-time 
    • Applicant must identify as Micronesian from the Micronesia Region (Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Belau, or the Republic of the Marshall Islands). 
    • Preference is given to women.  
    • Applicant is open to sophomores and above with declared majors in the School of Business & Public Administration. 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Payable to: Awardee 

This endowed scholarship was created by UOG’s 11th President, Thomas W. Krise, PhD and Patricia Krise. This scholarship is meant instill student appreciation for service and/or charitable giving with financial assistance.  

  • Award: 1 award of $1,000 for one year paid to the student directly.  50% to be awarded up front with balance to be awarded after the internship is completed. 
  • Eligibility: Student must be enrolled in an unpaid internship program with a non-profit organization for a minimum of 4 weeks.  
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50 
  • Essay – Must provide a minimum one-page summary of the internship experience within 30-days of completing the internship to receive the full award.  If the student does not complete the internship, the last payment will not be made and the first payment may be required to be paid back to the endowed scholarship depending on the situation. 
  • Selection to be made by the UOG Professional & International Programs. 
  • Payable to: Awardee

Additional scholarships may be available through the UOG Financial Aid office. A list of those scholarships and their application processes can be found on their website.
