About Our Scholarships

Explore a variety of transformative opportunities through the scholarships offered by the UOG Endowment Foundation. While not all of these scholarships are currently open for applications, they represent a diverse range of fields and interests, from STEM disciplines to the arts and humanities. When they do become available, students can look forward to scholarships that support academic excellence, community leadership, and innovative research initiatives.

This endowed scholarship honors President Emeritus Wilfred P. Leon Guerrero, 6th President of the University of Guam.  It was created by VP Emeritus Mark Heath who served UOG in the roles of Chief Financial Officer, Controller, VP of Finance, and VP of Administration & Finance.   

This endowed scholarship was created in honor of the Kenneth & Helen Carriveau family.  Son, Kenneth Carriveau, Jr. is married to Llolanda Carriveau and has two children, Katherine and Kieran.  Daughter, Monique Carriveau Storie is married to Brett Storie and has as son, Ethan. Family patriarch, Kenneth Carriveau, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Library Science, held various faculty and administrative positions during his 26-year tenure at the University of Guam. He eventually served simultaneously as Dean of Library Services and Director of MARC. The intention of this scholarship is to encourage undergraduate & graduate students to write theses or other creative works about Guam and the Mariana Islands.

This scholarship was created in honor of Cerila M. Rapadas by the Board of Directors of Catholic Social Services (CSS), her many colleagues, friends and family. She worked tirelessly along with social workers and other social service caregivers at CSS for over 20 years.  She provided leadership, guidance, and mentorship to dozens of her co-workers over the years as they provided respectful and dignified care to hundreds of clients who needed basic, humanitarian attention and love. This scholarship is granted with the hope that as the recipients go forward and complete their studies, they may choose to serve Guam’s most needy and vulnerable populations.

This scholarship honors the memory of Christine P. Lewis, whose life and exploits inspired so many cancer patients on Guam.  The Christine P. Lewis Memorial Fund wishes to assist students based on academics, financial, and social criteria.

This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Charles Parent, who recognized the importance for patients receiving medical care to have nurses and practitioners that can relay medical information in their language and with the same cultural reverence to allow the patient to be at ease.  As a Guam physician, he witnessed the positive curative value that nurses from Micronesia can have with other Micronesian patients that don’t speak English and had never previously travelled from their home islands in Micronesia before. 

This scholarship was created in honor of Dr. Robert A. Underwood.  He is a politician, educator, member of the Democratic Party of Guam, former Delegate from Guam to the U.S. House of Representatives (1993-2003) and was the 10th President of the University of Guam (2008-2018). During his ten years as President, he conceived of his “Good to Great” Campaign and was instrumental in raising up to $11 million in funds during UOG’s 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign. 

This scholarship was created to honor members of the Stotts Family, in particular the following: Frank Stotts taught physical education classes at the University of Guam in the 1970’s and coached the UOG Men’s Basketball Team from 1970-1976.  He was inducted to UOG’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. Terry Stotts at age 16 played on UOG’s basketball team and UOG won the Guam Island Basketball Championship. Jayne (Stotts) Phelps earned a Masters of Elementary Education from the University of Guam (1973).

This scholarship is in honor of Attorney Fred Horecky, an active member in the island business community. He is the proprietor and managing attorney of The Law Offices of Horecky & Associates. He has been practicing law for over three decades and received the 2013 U.S. Small Business Administration’s Minority Small Business Award for Guam.  He continues to give back to our island community by providing scholarships to students.

This scholarship was created from collective donations received through the Foundation’s annual “G is for Giving” campaign and other donations to benefit UOG students in need. 

This endowed IT&E scholarship was created in honor of Margarita Duenas Perez, mother of IT&E Overseas Chairman, Jose D. Perez, and Jaime Felipe Tuquero, a dedicated colleague at IT&E Overseas.

James A. Marsh Jr. is a storied professor, Emeritus Director of the Marine Lab, and Emeritus Dean of the Office of Graduate School and Research. Dr. Marsh arrived in Guam in 1970 when the Marine Lab was still under construction and has since dedicated his life to studying reefs in Guam and Micronesia.

Throughout his prolific career, Dr. Marsh has seen the lab and the university grow exponentially from a ragtag group of professors and researchers to an internationally renowned institution.

Dr. Marsh started this scholarship to give back to the island and to UOG. He especially hopes to encourage and support graduate students in pursuing thesis research to not only further their educational journey but contribute to an appreciation and understanding of the environment and resources of Guam and Micronesia.

This endowed scholarship is named for benefactors James and Young Hee Ji.  James Ji served as a taekwondo instructor at UOG in the 1970s.  He is a successful businessman and proprietor of James Ji Enterprises construction company. He remains active in his passion for taekwondo through the Guam Taekwondo Federation/James Ji Taekwondo Academy.  Through the James Ji Foundation, they continue their philanthropy towards various causes.  They have provided scholarships to a number of UOG students since 2002.

This endowed scholarship is named for Professor Emeritus of Art, Robert M. Sajnovsky, M.F.A. and his son, James Sajnovsky.  After decades of service to UOG as a member of the CLASS faculty, Robert Sajnovsky continues to be an active member of the Society of Emeritus Professors and Retired Scholars by engaging in CLASS’ Annual Research Conferences through creating and displaying art work.  He has also served the community for over 43 years through volunteer work as a Coast Guard Auxiliarist and has received numerous awards in recognition of his sustained service.

This endowed scholarship was created in the memory of Dr. Karri Trahin Perez, beloved faculty member of the UOG School of Business & Public Administration.  She is remembered for her energy and her love of life in the hearts of family and friends, colleagues, clients, and numerous students.  She dedicated her life to better the quality of the workforce on our island in private, government, and military sectors.

The Mañaina Scholarship was established in December 2019 through the efforts of SVPP Anita Borja-Enriquez as part of the UOG College Affordability Initiative. It is intended for students who are at risk of an uncompleted semester or year due to financial hardship.

When we think about our elders (Mañaina), we recall their nurturing sense of care for one’s family and the community. This serves as the inspiration for this scholarship fund.

This scholarship was created in honor of Jimmy Hall, to pass on the spirit of curiosity and excitement for sharks and their world.  Jimmy inspired countless people with his energy, enthusiasm, and infectious personality.  His unwavering hunger for life and sense of adventure left most who met him striving to be “More Like Jimmy.”  Jimmy died in 2007, during one of hi many great adventures, a BASE jumping expedition to Baffin Island in the Arctic.

This endowed scholarship was created by UOG’s 11th President, Thomas W. Krise, PhD and Patricia Krise. As a first-generation college student, herself, Patricia Krise understands the challenges that students are faced with while striving to achieve higher education. This scholarship is meant provide encouragement with financial assistance.

This scholarship honors the special memory of educator PRISCILLA CRUZ TOVES PEREZ.She was a teacher of over 30 years having worked for the Guam Public School System and the Academy of Our Lady of Guam.  The call to become a teacher came from her special personal outlook of dire needs of young people to be a part of the People in the World themselves.  To assist them to be aware and focused, and to knowingly be prepared to make whatever future action to survive, for themselves and their families.

Her family established this scholarship to honor her and her deep commitment to teaching while celebrating cultural diversity and instilling hopes of future legacies in the students, with the World.

This scholarship was created in September 2023 in honor of the Quichocho, Pangelinan, Taison, Talavera, and Tenorio families by Ms. Annie Q. Pangelinan. She made this scholarship to encourage others to see that “We are all in this together as islanders and we need to work together to keep our
community strong. We are all interconnected in mind, heart, body, and soul.”

This endowed scholarship was created by former UOG employees, Dr. Rosa Garrido Roberto Carter and Dr. Lee D. Carter.  Dr. Rosa Carter served as UOG’s 4th (and 1st female) president from 1977 to 1983. She was one of the first CHamoru women to receive a doctoral degree and served as a life-long educator. She received many awards including induction into the Guam Educator’s Hall of Fame.  Dr. Lee Carter served many roles with UOG:  Professor of Sociology, Assistant to the Academic Vice-President, and Assistant to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This scholarship was established to support UOG students in their development of English proficiency and the training of English professionals towards advancing this goal. 

The Bernadita T. Carbullido Peer Mentor Scholarship program is sponsored by the School of Education (SOE) at the University of Guam to support students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to mentoring their peers. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students who serve as Peer Mentors, helping their fellow students succeed in their academic journey.
